Dassel, Minn.-based Spectralytics Inc. has expanded its services to include rapid prototyping and quick-turn production to support medical device companies as they strive to get to market faster. The full spectrum of prototyping services will include polymer laser cutting and quick turn metal cutting and welding, plus assembly.
“We’re committed to servicing the needs of the medical device industry,” said Mark Goemer, Spectralytics’ sales manager. “We have dedicated engineers who will work closely with our clients to arrive at the best solutions for manufacturing based on our prototyping explorations.”
The prototyping division of Spectralytics consists of multiple workstations with four wavelengths, including Excimer (248 and 193 nanometres) Tripled YAG (355 nanometres) and femtosecond laser systems. The company has prototyping capabilities to handle sheet, tubing, and 3-D precision micro components.
Spectralytics is a Cretex Medical Company. The company specializes in tight tolerance, laser solutions for primarily the medical device industry, including soft tissue repair in sports orthopedics. Capabilities include laser welding, cutting and drilling, micro-machining and ablation, precision stent machining, and assembly, electro-polishing and heat treating. Some of the metals Spectralytics deals with most often are stainless steel, cobalt chrome, Nitinol, and precious metals. Polymers, both bioabsorable and non-biodegradable, are also used for laser manufacturing. Class 10,000 and 100,000 clean rooms are available for manufacturing and the company is ISO13485 certified.
