Tornier Inc. has expanded its Affiniti product line with the development of the Porous Coated Affiniti Stem for shoulder joint replacement surgery. The Coated Stem enables device fixation to the bone without bone cement, which has been problematic for some patients. It was designed to increase implant longevity and reduce bone loss if revision surgery is required.
“As a shoulder specialist, I find the treatment of patients with osteoporosis to be very challenging,” said R. Sean Churchill, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon and shoulder surgery specialist at Aurora Advanced Healthcare Inc. in Milwaukee, Wis. “Utilizing the Tornier Porous Coated Affiniti Stem allows me to avoid cement in the vast majority of these patients.”
The Affiniti product line was launched in 2008 and includes humeral stem and glenoid component designs as well as advanced instrumentation to ease use and maximize accurate implant positioning.
Tornier Inc. is a subsidiary of Tornier N.V., which is headquartered in Edina, Minn.
