BlackRock Inc. is increasing its holdings in Wright Medical Technology Inc. by nearly 50 percent, making it the company’s biggest institutional shareholder. The asset management firm revealed in regulatory filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that it owns about 6.5 million of the company’s shares, or about 16.5 percent.
Shares of the Arlington, Tenn.-based company have fluctuated since April 1, bouncing between a high of $17.14 to a low of $14.23 on June 17. Its stock closed at $15.30 on Aug. 5.
The New York, N.Y.-based BlackRock sold some of its holdings in three other medtech companies while increasing its stake in Wright Medical, unloading 7 percent of its shares in Varian Medical Systems, Inc.; 10 percent of its shares in Orthofix International; and about 46 percent of its shares in Conceptus Inc.
