Farmingdale, N.Y.-based surgical device company Misonix Inc. has entered into a three-year distribution agreement with WA-Med, based in Swidnik, Poland, for the distribution of the BoneScalpel ultrasonic bone cutting system. According to the agreement, WA-Med will be able to sell the device throughout Poland. There is an annual minimum purchase agreement written into the agreement.
Misonix manufactures therapeutic ultrasonic products worldwide for spine surgery, skull-based surgery, neurosurgery, wound debridement, cosmetic surgery, laparoscopic surgery and other surgical applications. WA-Med has a strong presence in the spine and orthopedic sectors, and therefore is well positioned to bring the BoneScalpel product to the Polish market, according to Misonix.
The BoneScalpel is a tissue specific osteotomy device designed to make precise cuts through bone and hard tissue while largely preserving delicate soft tissue structures. Misonix claims that while is has the speed of a power instrument, it does not pose the danger of rotary sharps.
"We are pleased to add WA-Med to our developing distribution organization in Eastern Europe; their presence in a large, emerging market could add measurably to our sales success,” said Michael A. McManus Jr., president and CEO of Misonix. “We believe that partnering in new markets with organizations committed to customer service and education provides Misonix a competitive edge in developing relationships with the appropriate thought leaders that can, in turn, influence the medical community in their geographic areas to give our products a meaningful chance to attract their business.”
