Blue Belt Technologies Inc. is celebrating a milestone.
On Aug. 5, company officials reported that Jose Bossolo, M.D., performed the 500th Navio-assisted partial knee replacement worldwide surgery at Valley Baptist Medical Center. Valley Baptist is a general care facility in Brownsville, Texas and is part of Tenet Healthcare. The Navio Surgical System is robotic-assisted technology for partial knee replacement surgery used to create and execute customized surgical plans for each patient.
Valley Baptist Medical Center began offering Navio assisted surgery to patients in October 2013.
“At the Valley Baptist Medical Center, we specialize in using advanced technology to offer a unique array of procedures,” said Bossolo. “The Navio technology is excellent, it allows me to deliver very consistent, very precise results that I tailor to each of my patients.”
The Navio system is an open-architecture solution allowing surgeons to use an array of different implant systems, while featuring Blue Belt’s proprietary Stride unicondylar knee. The Navio system incorporates patented technology to provide precise robotic control to surgeons via a handheld, computer-assisted bone cutting tool. Since launching the Stride knee system in October, 2013 more than 350 Stride devices have been implanted using Blue Belt’s Navio surgical technology. Blue Belt has placed 25 Navio systems throughout the United States and Europe.
“This is another important milestone achieved in a very short time period at Blue Belt,” said Eric B. Timko, President and CEO of Blue Belt Technologies. “We’ve established strong momentum because of the power and flexibility of our technology platform and are very encouraged by the engagement of our customers like Dr. Bossolo and Valley Baptist Medical Center.”
Minneapolis, Minn.-based Blue Belt Technologies develops robotics-assisted surgical instruments for initial use in orthopedic procedures and then for other surgical specialties including neurosurgery, spinal and otolaryngology.
