Expanding Orthopedics Inc. (EOI) has signed a multi-million dollar agreement with Trout Medical to distribute its FLXfit 3D expandable cage in Texas.
Trout Medical owner Brad Rummer was the largest Medtronic Inc. spine distributor for 25 years, eventually selling his company to the Minneapolis, Minn.-based device behemoth in 2011. Rummer said he is "thrilled" to return to the spine business, noting EOI has both the ability and pipeline to release additional products to market as the FLXfit.
"The FLXfit gets into the U.S. market at the best possible timing. Expandable cages are the fastest- growing spine segment and provide a strong opportunity for a product like the FLXfit to create a significant impact,"Rummer said. "It offers an 'all in one' solution for patients undergoing fusion surgery including MIS capability, footprint, large bone graft chamber, smooth insertion and placement, and lordotic expansion designed to correct the sagittal balance. What matters to the surgeon, besides the clinical benefits the FLXfit could offer, are the ease of use and the ability of not only stabilizing the spine, but really correcting the patient's spinal anatomy."
EOICEO Ofer Bokobza said it was crucial for his company to join forces with a strong strategic partner. "Brad has over 25 years of experience selling spine devices and he is well respected in the industry. I am confident Brad and his team will drive the product to adoption as the new standard of care in Texas," he added.
