Carslbad, Calif.-based Aurora Spine Corporation’s Zip Ultra minimally invasive interspinous device has made its Swizz debut with its first implantation in the country. This surgery is part of the company’s continuing efforts to expand the use of its ZIP MIS (minimally invasive surgery) fusion system in Europe. The surgery was performed at the Clinique Générale-Beaulieu in Geneva by Aymen Ramadan, M.D.
“The ZIP Ultra MIS fusion system is very easy to use,” said Ramadan. “The instrumentation is very intuitive and the implantation is fast and simple via a small incision. It allows me to perform a short and safe surgery while minimizing the risk of nerve damage. The patient left the hospital pain free and is doing very well.”
“We are very excited to now offer our ZIP MIS product portfolio in Switzerland”, said Sven Claes, international product director of Aurora Spine. “We believe that our ZIP Ultra MIS fusion system is a true minimally invasive fusion system, allowing the surgeon to perform a ‘Screwless Procedure’ [a process trademarked by Aurora Spine]. It is designed to be simple, safe and secure and we are convinced it will improve patient outcomes in Switzerland as well as globally.”
Aurora Spine’s ZIP Ultra MIS interspinous fixation implant for spinal fusion consists of the ‘One-Step’ (also trademarked by the company) locking mechanism, which eliminates the use of a set screw, articulating spikes and various sizes to accommodate variations in patient anatomy.
Aurora Spine is an early stage company which makes MI regenerative spinal implant technologies.
