Warsaw, Ind.-based Symmetry Medical Inc., now part of Tecomet Inc., will be shuttering its northeastern Indiana plant, threatening approximately 130 jobs. Along with the Avilla plant, which makes orthopedic implants and instruments, a newer plant in Bedford, Mass., will also be closing.
Symmetry’s OEM Solutions business was purchased by Wilmington, Mass.-based Tecomet in December. Tecomet officials told Fort Wayne, Indiana newspaper the Journal Gazette that Tecomet will offer affected employees jobs at other locations if possible. Tecomet reported a series of layoffs will begin mid-summer, culminating in the closure of the Avilla plant at year’s end. The Bedford closure is slated for March 2016.
