Bioventus LLC, a provider of orthobiologic solutions, has appointed retired Medtronic plc Chairman/CEO Bill Hawkins as its new board chairman.
Hawkins replaces outgoing chairman Dan Lemaitre, who has held the position since 2012.
"I want to thank Dan Lemaitre for his vision, energy, sage counsel and leadership of our Board of Managers since Bioventus became a standalone company in 2012. His contributions to our early successes were numerous," Bioventus CEO Tony Bihl said. "As we move into 2016, we are excited to have Bill Hawkins join us to lead our board as chairman. As former CEO of one of the most successful global medical device companies, Bill brings very strong experience in orthobiologics, including BMP, and we look forward to working with him and our board to continue to grow Bioventus in this space."
From October 2011 to July 2015, Hawkins served as president/CEO of Immucor, a provider of transfusion and transplantation diagnostic products worldwide. Prior to that, he was chairman/CEO of Medtronic. Previously, he served as president/CEO of Novoste Corp. Hawkins also has held senior leadership positions at American Home Products, Johnson & Johnson, Guidant Corp., and Eli Lily and Company.
Hawkins received his bachelor's degree in electrical and biomedical engineering from Duke University in 1976, where he also conducted medical research in pathology. He then went on to earn an M.B.A. from the Darden School of Business, University of Virginia, in 1982. He is also active on public and private boards as well as non-for-profit boards.
Bioventus is an orthobiologics company with two product portfolios -- Bioventus Active Healing Therapies and Bioventus Surgical. The firm is based in Durham, N.C.
