Reflexion Health, a virtual rehabilitation therapy company, announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Greensboro Orthopaedics to use VERA, Reflexion Health's FDA-cleared Virtual Exercise Rehabilitation Assistant, as part of Greensboro's postoperative rehabilitation offering for total-joint replacement patients.
VERA is a digital platform that brings the guidance of a physical therapist into the home along with tools that help clinicians remotely monitor patient progress beyond the traditional in-clinic setting. Greensboro Orthopaedics is a forward-thinking orthopaedic medical practice specializing in same-day total-joint replacements, serving Greensboro, North Carolina, and the surrounding communities.
"At Greensboro, we are constantly identifying new technologies to help us accommodate the needs of our joint replacement patients," said Frank V. Aluisio, M.D., orthopedic surgeon at Greensboro Orthopaedics. "Implementing transformative technology like VERA gives us a way to deliver consistent, high-quality post-operative care at a fixed cost."
Joseph Smith, M.D., Ph.D., chief executive officer, Reflexion Health, added, "We're proud to help Greensboro innovate and enhance their post-operation offerings by leveraging our technology to build upon their capabilities and deliver value for patients. The enthusiasm for VERA continues to grow and we look forward to helping patients across the country recover in the safety, comfort, and convenience of their own homes."
VERA is uniquely designed to deliver on-demand therapy sessions that eliminate barriers associated with travel, costs and time. The system operates using an avatar and guided therapy exercises, and patients receive audio-visual feedback that helps them stay engaged and motivated to complete these exercises. Patients and clinicians stay connected throughout recovery, ensuring continuity of care beyond the clinic walls.
VERA is currently in clinical studies at a number of academic medical centers across the U.S. Initial data has shown that VERA improves compliance and saves time, steps and costs in post-acute care rehabilitation.
