American Joint Replacement Registry03.06.18
The American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR) has published the 2017 Report to the Public About Hip and Knee Replacements, the second year that a patient summary of the clinical data available has been released.
With a multi-stakeholder governing model, AJRR incorporates the voice of the patient, with guidance from its Public Advisory Board (PAB) and public representation on the AJRR Steering Committee. The mission of the PAB is to improve the value of the AJRR by ensuring a public voice in the registry’s data collection, reporting, and utilization activities.
AJRR integrated with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) in late in 2017, and is the first registry in their new portfolio of orthopaedic databases. AAOS values the work the PAB does in championing joint replacement patients’ best interests, and plans to use their model going forward as additional orthopaedic specialties join the portfolio.
“The Public Advisory Board’s goals align with the AAOS’ mission to help surgeons provide the highest quality musculoskeletal care,” said AAOS Registry Oversight Committee (ROC) Chair Daniel J. Berry, M.D. “Informed patients can lead to better decision-making by both the patient and the physician, and the AJRR Report to the Public is a great resource for patients to use to be more engaged in their health. An educated patient would be more likely to fill out patient-reported outcome surveys, leading towards better insight into surgical outcomes and the improvement of orthopaedic care.”
AJRR is committed to producing this report every year, and will move towards publishing in conjunction with the year-end release of its annual report. The report will be made available to AJRR’s more than 1,000 participating institutions, as well as industry-leading consumer groups, all of whom are encouraged to share it with the public and their members.
The PAB is chaired by AJRR Steering Committee member Margaret VanAmringe, MHS, The Joint Commission executive vice president for public policy and government relations, and includes John A. Canning Jr., Mark Haubner, Timothy M. Mojonnier, Richard Seiden, Esq., Diana Stilwell, MPH, and is staffed by Lori Boukas, MS.
