During the 33rd Annual Meeting of the North American Spine Society (NASS) this week, SpineLine recognized its inaugural “20 Under 40” list. SpineLine serves as the primary publication for the entire membership of NASS and features articles on medical, ethical, and policy matters in the fields of spine and health care.
“Reviewing the selected applications was an absolute pleasure,” said William J. Sullivan, M.D., SpineLine medical editor. “The professional and volunteer work done by these young NASS members in their communities is remarkable and inspirational. I think we can all rest a little easier—our future is in good hands.”
In fact, the nominees were so remarkable and inspirational that there was a tie in application scoring. The review team decided to honor 21 NASS members rather than 20.
In the “20 Under 40” applications, NASS members described factors that led them to a career in the spine field and named the mentors that influenced them the most. They also shared what they believe their parents would say about their care and personality. From building a local food pantry to working to improve spine trauma care locally to providing free care at a clinic twice a month, these members described ways that they give back to their communities, as well.
The magazine’s editorial team recognized the following 21 members of its first “20 Under 40” list:
SpineLine will accept applications for the 2019 class of its “20 Under 40” from Jan. 1 to March 1, 2019. Winners will be profiled in SpineLine and recognized at the 2019 NASS Annual Meeting in Chicago, Ill.
SpineLine is published monthly to educate and inform NASS members (and secondary audiences) on medical, ethical, and policy matters in spine and health care. SpineLine serves as the primary publication for the entire NASS membership: to educate and inform NASS’ multidisciplinary members on issues of interest and relevance to spine care and research and to assist them in providing quality, cost-effective patient care; and to communicate and promote the policies, professional activities, and products of the association.
More than 3,000 spine professionals are meeting this week at NASS' 33rd Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, Calif., to share the latest information, innovative techniques and procedures, best practices and new technologies in the spine field. NASS is a multidisciplinary medical organization dedicated to fostering the highest quality, evidenced-based and ethical spine care by promoting education, research and advocacy. NASS is comprised of more than 8,000 members from several disciplines, including orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, physiatry, neurology, radiology, anesthesiology, research and physical therapy.
