Smith+Nephew will build a new R&D and manufacturing facility for its Advanced Wound Management business on the outskirts of Hull, UK, replacing where the company has been located for over a century since its 1856 founding.
The company will invest over $100 million to create the R&D, manufacturing, and flexible office environment. The UK Government also supported the development, and the new facility is predicted to support over $10 billion in sales in the first ten years of operation.
"This major investment demonstrates our commitment to the UK and to building our leadership in Advanced Wound Management,” Smith+Nephew president of Advanced Wound Management told the press. “Our vision is for a world-class working environment that encourages innovation and collaboration to deliver next-generation products that improve the standard of care for the NHS and customers around the world. Smith+Nephew was founded in Hull in 1856 and we are proud to make this major investment in the region for future generations."
The new facility will be at Melton West business park, subject to planning approval—about eight miles from the company’s current Hull site.
The new site is expected to open in 2024.
