As we look back on our first year, we’ve accomplished much of what we set out to do, but we still have plenty room to grow—much like the orthopedic industry (analysts predict the market to be worth $40 billion by decade’s end). In this issue, we’re pleased to announce two developments that not only reflect our expansion, but also our continued dedication to the orthopedic sector.
On Oct. 16-18, we’ll hold the inaugural Orthopedic Design & Technology (ODT) Conference and Exhibition in Fort Wayne, IN, the hub of the US orthopedic industry. The program includes two full days of conference sessions, in addition to an extensive exhibit hall. Speakers represent several of the largest orthopedic companies—Biomet, DePuy, Smith & Nephew and Zimmer—in addition to leading industry financial experts, consultants, advocates and suppliers.Presentations will include such topics as emerging trends in manufacturing, intellectual property, device contract gainsharing, reimbursement challenges, contract manufacturing, venture capital and even the onsite broadcast of a live, minimally invasive orthopedic procedure conducted at a local hospital (for more information, see page 58).
Our goal is to provide a unique forum for education, networking and debate between OEMs and suppliers, as well as to foster growth in the orthopedic sector. We hope you’ll join us.
In addition to charting new territory with the ODT Conference, we’re also growing our staff to serve you better. Chris Delporte, an industry veteran from both the publishing and medical device sectors, has joined our team as group editor for ODT, as well as our sister publication, Medical Product Outsourcing. A former writer and Washington editor for Medical Device Daily, Chris most recently served as the director of communications and member relations for the Medical Device Manufacturers Association.
Together, along with the rest of the ODT staff, we’re now better able to expand our coverage of orthopedic manufacturing while continuing the tradition established last year as a reliable source for the latest industry news and trends. Our team will be highly visible at industry events, and we’re always ready for your article ideas, insight and comments—so stop us and let us know.
