ChoiceSpine, a Knoxville, Tenn.-based spinal implant company, has launched its Blackbird posterior cervical system in the United States. The system was designed by a surgeon panel with the goal of improving upon current designs available in the market, simplifying instrumentation and improving patient outcomes.
“After over 150 successful surgeries, we are excited to announce the commercial launch of our Blackbird posterior cervical system,” said Steve Ainsworth, Ph.D., ChoiceSpine’s vice president of research and development. “The Blackbird posterior cervical system is the result of hard work between our internal team, distribution partners and physician partners.”
“Blackbird extends the portfolio of products we offer,” said Anderson Collins, director of business development. “This system and what we have in the product pipeline will continue to fuel the double-digit growth we have experienced over the past few years.”
The company received U.S. Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance for the system more than a year ago.
Blackbird is a comprehensive system for posterior fixation of the cervical and upper thoracic spine. It offers a variety of screws, hooks and rods that can accommodate any surgeon’s needs, company officials claim.
Blackbird is the first of three commercial product launches the privately held ChoiceSpine plans in 2015.
