The ProDisc-L Total Disc Replacement is a ball and socket implant consisting of two metal endplates and one plastic inlay.

The plastic inlay snap-locks into the lower endplate and provides the ball that rides in the socket of the upper endplate that is intended to allow motion. There are also fins on the endplates that lock them into the vertebral bone.
