ECA Medical Instruments has introduced its new single-procedure Model 225 in-line, torque-limiting adapter. The disposable device, part of the company’s new Torque-Fast series of products, is used for fixation of screws, connectors and fasteners for orthopedic spine and long-bone procedures. Company officials are touting thedevice as a“first of its kind” product. The adapter is used with variable-speed surgical drills and, according to the company, it works with all major surgical brands. It has torque-limiting range from 1.12 Nm to 4.51 Nm (10 to 40 pounds per inch), with set point accuracy of +/- 10 percent and up to 100 flawless torque actuations. Orthopedic customers will start taking delivery in September, with production orders for use in the United States, the European Union and other global markets, officials noted. Two benefits of the device that company execs touted are safety and speed. The adapter protects patient and surgeon from over tightening a connector or screw and causing damage, and it also can accelerate procedures by reducing operating room time to affix an implant vs. a hand-tightened approach.
ECA Medical Instruments is based in Thousand Oaks, Calif. The company specializes in the design and manufacture of single-procedure, torque-limiting surgical instruments and kits for the medical implant industry.
