ChoiceSpine LP, a Knoxville, Tenn.-based spine company, has launched its Typhoon Facet Screw Fixation System. The system was designed to simplify arthrodesis (the surgical fixation of a joint, ultimately resulting in bone fusion) and posterior stabilization of the lumbar spine. The system received U.S. Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance last year.
The new system is intended to stabilize the spine as an aid to fusion through bilateral immobilization of the facet joints, with or without bone graft, at single or multiple levels, from L1 to S1 inclusive.
The screw is available in 4.5 and 5.5 millimeter screw diameters with a variety of screw lengths to accommodate variations of anatomy as well as location in the spine.
"This is another stepping stone in the growth and customer focus of our business," said Rick Henson, a principal and co-founder of ChoiceSpine. "This system adds another product offering into the ChoiceSpine portfolio to better serve our distributors and surgeons."
Anderson Collins, director of Business Development, said: "The surgeon design team working in conjunction with the ChoiceSpine Engineering Team did a phenomenal job of keeping the instrumentation simple and user-focused to allow prompt familiarization with the system."
The company was founded in 2006.
