Bedford, Mass.-based ConforMIS Inc., has rolled out a new generation of the company’s iTotal CR (cruciate [ligament]-retaining) total knee replacement. The implant was designed to improve procedural efficiency by further reducing the number of intraoperative steps required during a knee replacement surgery.
The company received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration late last year.
The newest iTotal CR was showcased during the at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons annual meeting in Las Vegas, Nev. (March 25-27).
According to the company, iTotal CR is the only individually sized and shaped total knee replacement product available that is designed and manufactured specifically to match each patient’s unique anatomy. In clinical studies, the iTotal CR customized implant has demonstrated greater patient satisfaction, greater stability and more natural kinematics compared to traditional, off-the-shelf knee implants, company officials claimed.
“ConforMIS is setting a new pace for innovation,” said Philipp Lang, M.D., CEO of ConforMIS. “The latest generation iTotal again demonstrates our ability to respond to the needs of our customers with better solutions for patients, surgeons and hospitals. Our scalable business model differentiates our company and allows us the agility and speed to bring new technology to patients rapidly.”
ConforMIS uses its proprietary iFit imaging technology to develop and manufacture joint replacement implants that are customized to fit each patient’s anatomy.
ConforMIS was profiled last year in Orthopedic Design & Technology's Top 10 issue as an emerging company to watch. Read more here.
Visitors to AAOS can visit with ConforMIS on the exhibit floor in booth 4432.
