Osso VR09.12.19
Osso VR, a validated Virtual Reality (VR) surgical training platform, has launched a VR training module for Wright Medical’s Infinity Total Ankle Replacement System. The module is being demonstrated at the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) annual meeting from Sept. 12-15, 2019, at Wright Medical’s AOFAS exhibit booth #133.
This first of its kind training scenario allows surgeons to experience in a hands-on way the value of patient-specific ankle arthroplasty including the ability to practice their fluoroscopic skills. Surgeons can train and assess themselves on the intuitive workflow of the procedure at their own pace, allowing them to rapidly become proficient in this high-demand, emerging technique.
Osso VR’s scientifically validated training platform is designed for surgeons, sales teams, and other trainees to address new techniques and increase confidence through learning for new medical devices. The technology provides realistic, haptic-enhanced interactions in an immersive training environment. The company’s surgical training technology provides on-demand, educational experiences that are effective, repeatable, and measurable to help surgeons reach proficiency with the device.
“Patients want and need access to the highest value procedures and technologies. Unfortunately, barriers to training often prevent them from having access to these impactful surgeries. Osso VR is committed to driving the adoption of higher value technologies like total ankle replacement, and with this launch, we will give surgeons the confidence to utilize the optimal treatment for their patients,” said Justin Barad, MD, co-founder and CEO of Osso VR.
Wright Medical offers a comprehensive suite of total ankle replacement systems, including Infinity, Inbone and Invision, to meet the needs of surgeons and patients for a broad range of pathology. This catalogue is further enhanced with the Prophecy preoperative navigation system, a patient-specific solution that provides custom surgical plans and guides to cut down on unnecessary steps, instrumentation and optimize outcomes. The Prophecy system can be used with Wright’s full array of total ankle implants to fit a patient’s specific needs, has the ability to create a detailed revision surgical plan, with or without implants currently in place, and offers 3D visualization of how to manage bone loss and reconstruct joint height under a variety of conditions.
