ODT Conference & Exhibition Preview
Inaugural event provides a unique forum for orthopedic device industry
With orthopedic market revenues expected to reach $23 billion this year and $44 billion by 2010, orthopedics is certainly one of the most dynamic sectors of the medical device industry.
The Grand Wayne Convention Center in Ft. Wayne, IN is the home for the ODT Conference and Exhibition on Oct. 16-18. |
According to a recent Dow Jones VentureOne study, venture cap- ital firms invested $315 million in spine-related startups last year, up from $124 million eight years ago. Banc of America Securities estimates the spine sector is worth $3 billion worldwide.
Furthermore, anyone who has followed the industry during the past 24 months can’t help but notice that even as the market grows, companies continue to consolidate as never before.
To respond to the needs of this ever-changing marketplace, the inaugural Orthopedic Design & Technology (ODT) Conference and Exhibition, to be held Oct. 16-18 in Fort Wayne, IN, will serve as a premier event for orthopedic device manufacturers and suppliers to learn about new technology and industry trends, as well as make new contacts and network with peers.
“Our goal for this forum is to promote and foster the overall growth and development of the orthopedic market,” said Howard Revitch, group publisher of ODT.
The site for the event is the refurbished Grand Wayne Convention Center. The program kicks off Oct. 16 with a welcome reception followed by two full days of conference sessions. An exhibit hall will feature 80 suppliers showcasing their expertise and technology. Graham Richard, mayor of Fort Wayne, will offer welcoming remarks on the 17th.
Conference presentations will cover topics such as emerging trends in manufacturing, intellectual property, gainsharing, reimbursement challenges, contract manufacturing and venture capital.
Speakers represent several of the largest orthopedic companies, including Biomet, DePuy, Smith & Nephew and Zimmer, in addition to leading industry financial experts, consultants, advocates and suppliers.
One of the conference highlights will be held Wednesday, Oct. 18. A minimally invasive surgery conducted by William Berghoff, MD, will be broadcast live to the conference from the Orthopaedic Hospital at Parkview North in Fort Wayne.
