The new space is four times the size of the old location.
Orthopedic implant company ConforMIS Inc. has relocated its headquarters to a larger space in Bedford, Mass. The new location, combined with the manufacturing facility in Burlington, Mass., quadruples the total square footage of the company’s existing property. The company now has more than 120,000 square feet available for its operations. The expansion is intended to facilitate the development of advanced manufacturing capabilities, new product development initiatives, and a broader commercialization strategy, hopefully resulting in more than 100 new jobs over the next 12 to 18 months. “The expansion to our Bedford facility is an important milestone for ConforMIS as we continue to grow our application of image-based technology and support the rapid adoption of our personalized knee replacements,” said Philipp Lang, M.D., CEO of ConforMIS. “This brisk growth is a testament to the clinical difference our products make in the lives of patients and the innovation that surgeons feel when they try our technology.” ConforMIS recently released its iTotal G2 total knee replacement system, and the additional manufacturing space will accommodate the growth of this product line as well as its other knee systems, company officials said. The iTotal G2 knee is a patient-specific custom knee replacement system. To support its expanded product line, ConforMIS has also grown its personnel, more than doubling its local employee base in the last two years. ConforMIS will retain its location in Burlington to enable scaled production for its knee replacement systems, which according to the company have enjoyed broad commercial demand. In 2011, MassDevelopment, an organization that aims to strengthen the economy of Massachusetts by working with local companies, provided ConforMIS a $1,445,000 loan from the Emerging Technology Fund to support the company’s manufacturing expansion. “Thanks to our growth strategy of investing in education, innovation and infrastructure, including our ten-year, $1 billion Life Sciences Initiative, Massachusetts continues to lead the world in life sciences,” said Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, a strong supporter of the medical device sector in his state. “I congratulate ConforMIS, and appreciate the company’s ongoing commitment to growing in Massachusetts.” ConforMIS Inc. is focused on the development and commercialization of medical devices for the treatment of osteoarthritis and joint damage.
