SpinalCyte LLC, a Texas-based tissue engineering technology company focused on regrowth of the spinal disc nucleus using human dermal fibroblasts, has been awarded a U.S. patent for cartilage repair using an in-vivo bioreactor. The technology described in the patent involves a device which is a resorbable and biodegradable structure that can be permeable to oxygen but hermetic to fluids. Also claimed in the patent is the device having outer biodegradable membrane that encompasses nutrients and/or growth factors.
“This new patent broadens our portfolio of unique intellectual property which will further advance our position in human dermal fibroblast regeneration of tissue. Our current portfolio includes 12 U.S. and foreign patents issued and directly owned by the company, along with 38 patents pending,” said Pete O’Heeron, CEO of SpinalCyte.
