AAOS Launches Analytics Institute for Orthopedic and Musculoskeletal Care Researchers

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) has launched its Registry Analytics Institute—a new resource for clinicians to submit proposals for analytical data that are contained within the American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR) and to help advance and improve orthopedic and musculoskeletal care.
 
“Collecting clinically relevant data in a timely fashion and applying that data to improve outcomes for patients represents one of the most important goals of the AAOS Registry Analytics Institute. It is the arm of the Academy that will leverage Registry Data to help identify outcomes of surgical interventions,” said Richard L. Illgen II, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult hip and knee reconstructive surgery at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and chair of the AAOS Research Projects Subcommittee (RPS).
 
The Analytics Institute application process consists of two phases: preliminary review, and full application review. Applications are evaluated by Registry Analytics staff, the RPS, and the AJRR Data Committee consisting of surgeon and industry leaders, as well as patient representatives.
 
Clinicians and clinician-scientists with a well-defined hypothesis related to orthopaedics or musculoskeletal care are encouraged to apply. Applicants whose projects are approved will work with the AAOS Analytics and Statistical team to develop an analysis plan and timeline for their project. All data analysis will be completed by AAOS and reviewed by the project team.
 
By making data available to the scientific community, the AAOS is providing clinicians the opportunity to better examine orthopaedic clinical practices and outcomes.
