The HiJak AC is the first cervical inter-body fusion device to offer adjustment to height and lordosis to restore the spine to its more natural curvature.
February 27, 2019
By: Atlas Spine Inc.
Atlas Spine Inc., a spinal implant company based in Jupiter Fla., announced today the successful completion of its 50th surgical procedure and over 100 devices implanted with its new HiJak AC Expandable Cervical Inter-Body Fusion Device (IBFD). The company has now moved to its full product launch. The HiJak AC System marks another achievement of innovation created by Atlas Spine. Designed with the more complex cervical conditions in mind, HiJak AC is the first expandable cervical IBFD on the market to offer adjustment to both height and lordosis to easily and predictably restore the spine to its more natural curvature (lordosis) and balanced sagittal alignment. This new technology now gives surgeons the added advantage to intra-operatively customize the device to fit their patients’ specific needs and optimize their surgical efforts. “It’s not just about fusion anymore. As studies and clinical evidence continue to show, the value of restoring lordosis and global sagittal balance to the cervical spine is becoming more widely recognized and prioritized by spine surgeons today. With implant options that can achieve as much as 20 degrees of angulation, HiJak’s expandable capability plays right into this surgical objective. This kind of mechanical advantage was unavailable to surgeons prior to the introduction of HiJak,” said Matt Baynham, Atlas’ CEO. “We had absolute confidence in the merits of the product going into launch and the performance and feedback we’ve experienced thus far has further validated our expectations.” “HiJak truly represents a disruptive technology when it comes to both height and lordosis restoration especially at the cervicothoracic junction. It’s given surgeons the opportunity to improve their patients’ chin-brow angle much better than we were ever able to accomplish with non-expandable technology,” stated Kees Poelstra, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Spine Center of Excellence at Sacred Heart Hospital. “The HiJak AC implant provides me the mechanical advantage in a reproducible, simple to use device to reconstruct the interbody space to its natural state and restore the appropriate amount of lordosis to achieve optimal sagittal balance,” said Steven Ludwig, M.D., professor, director of spine fellowship, and chief of spine surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. HiJak AC represents the first stage of a new minimally invasive approach to treating degenerative disc disease and deformity of the cervical spine. Atlas is poised to release additional technologies over the next 18 months that complement the HiJak platform. For more information, visit the website at https://www.atlasspine.com/.
