Product news, personnel, patent protection, and partnership planning produced the most pageviews on ODT’s website this past week.

University of Arizona spinout firm Ancerix proved most popular with cybervisitors with news that it has developed a toolkit that can tackle three common challenges in extracting orthopedic hardware: screw heads that are inaccessible due to bone overgrowth; screws that spin freely and have lost purchase due to infection or poor bone quality; and pieces of a broken rod that are irretrievable because they lack attachment points. The toolkit is undergoing testing and the company is currently pursuing seed round capital.

Other traffic-driving product news came from Lipogems, which was awarded another FDA investigational device exemption study for its MicroFat treatment for knee osteoarthritis. The technology has reportedly been used in more than 60,000 procedures worldwide and is supported by over 140 peer-reviewed publications.

Lazurite enticed readers via word of a distribution partnership with Benchmark Medical for its ArthroFree Wireless Camera System, and Tetrous followed suit with another U.S. patent for its EnFix demineralized cortical bone fiber implants. The first product in the EnFix lineup is a procedure-specific implant for rotator cuff repair.

The week’s prevailing personnel news was provided by Augmedics, which hired Tal Davidson, M.D., as its new R&D vice president. Davidson was most recently artificial intelligence (AI) research director and site lead for Medtronic’s Visionsense, an R&D site developing intraoperative visualization and AI opportunities for minimally invasive surgery.
