Orthofix Launches 3D-Printed WaveForm A ALIF

Orthofix has launched its WaveForm A interbody for anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF) procedures.
 
WaveForm A integrates with Orthofix’s Meridian ALIF system to treat patients needing fusion due to degenerative disc disease. Its proprietary, wave-like design offers strength, porosity, and stability, with large implant graft aperture for bone graft material. These features help create an osteoinductive environment to optimize supplemental implant procedures.
 
“Implant design and surface technology play a vital role in the bone growth process during fusion,” Dr. Neil Arif Tayyab, orthopedic spine surgeon at Girard Orthopaedic Surgeons told the press. “Newer designs such as the WaveForm A interbody can help stimulate a better bone growth response and give me greater confidence that the patient will have a successful fusion.”
 
The Meridian ALIF system is a modular implant and instrument system engineered to help streamline ALIF procedures with diverse fixation options for single and multilevel ALIFs in a reduce number of trays. It’s compatible with the WaveForm A and the company’s Reef A interbody featuring NanoMetalene surface tech and Reef topography.
 
The WaveForm A implants are 3D printed and feature a repeating and continuous wave-like structure. WaveForm was created to withstand high compressive loads while delivering endplate porosity that maximizes potential for early stabilization, according to the company.
 
The balance of strength to porosity, according to Orthofix, increases opportunity for bone packing, decreased stiffness profile, and enhanced imaging properties.
