It may be considered “old news” by now, but ODT website visitors were still in love this past week with the Globus Medical-NuVasive merger.

Announced Feb. 9, the $3.1 billion deal will give Globus Medical shareholders about 72% ownership of the combined entity and NuVasive Inc. stakeholders with approximately 28% ownership (on a fully diluted basis). Together, Globus Medical and NuVasive will have a presence in more than 50 countries with over 5,000 employees. The new organization’s larger commercial sales organization will enable it to further penetrate existing and future markets, reaching more surgeons and patients around the world. 

Cyber guests also were fond of Anika Therapeutics’ new RevoMotion Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty (RSA) System, which made its debut in U.S. operating rooms. The System features a simplified component insertion and the industry’s smallest diameter threaded glenoid baseplate, designed to preserve bone and provide flexibility in positioning, while achieving substantial fixation via a central compression screw.

Spinal Elements was beloved for its new president and CEO, while Catalyst OrthoScience and Accelus each won hearts for their most recent FDA clearances. Catalyst OrthoScience received the agency’s blessing to market its fully convertible stemmed total shoulder arthroplasty system with an ellipsoid anatomic head, while Accelus was granted authorization for a Remi Robotic Navigation System software update that allows image capture with the GE OEC 3D, Ziehm Vision RFD 3D, and Stryker Airo TruCT systems.
