Xtremity has closed an $8.1 million Series B3 financing round that added several new investors to the company’s shareholder ranks. The firm plans to use the funds to commercialize its first product, a transtibial prosthetic socket (XtremityTT). “Xtremity was formed to re-envision prosthetic development and to transform care for individuals living with limb loss or limb difference,” Xtremity President/CEO Maynard Carkhuff said. “With a mission to enhance the patient experience, Xtremity is introducing the first and only socket on the market that enables rapid fabrication and future adjustability; this financing will be crucial in launching XtremityTT and expanding our company.” The medical device maker’s advanced, proprietary polymer materials allow for quicker socket device fabrication, fittings, and easy adjustments. Xtremity’s first product, the XtremityTT, is a transtibial socket that can be effectively reshaped with heat, which allows for a quicker turnaround time and fewer appointments for receiving a final definitive socket, thereby reducing the time that patients must spend away from their jobs and family compared to traditional prosthetic sockets. Clinicians also benefit from the company’s technology, as they can quickly fabricate the socket in-house compared with relying on outside lab facilities to fabricate sockets. The in-house fabrication allows clinicians to fit, adjust, and deliver prosthetic devices more quickly than traditional laminated sockets. “Our system was developed with the patient’s time and comfort at the forefront of its design, and we are eager to provide this technology to the amputee community as we commercialize the XtremityTT socket,” added Carkhuff. Based in Denver, Xtremity offers advanced prosthetic socket technology and has developed the XtremityTT Socket.
