Product rollouts, clearances and partnerships took center stage on ODT’s website this past week. The top digital traffic drivers were reports about product expansions. Royal Philips expanded the rollout of its augmented reality (AR) surgical navigation solution—ClarifEye—to Japan, and Accelus touted the rapid global expansion of its interbody fusion system. In a news release announcing the ClarifEye expansion, Philips highlighted positive results in the first patients treated by the International University of Health and Welfare, Mita Hospital (Tokyo, Japan). Installed on a Philips interventional X-ray system in a hybrid operating room at Mita Hospital, ClarifEye helped the hospital’s orthopedic surgeon Dr. Ken Ishii to successfully treat patients with spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spaces in the spine) and scoliosis (sideways curvature of the spine) via minimally-invasive image-guided procedures. Meanwhile, Accelus reported its FlareHawk Interbody Fusion System was recently cleared for use in Italy, Taiwan, Portugal, and Colombia, bringing the total number of countries where FlareHawk can be used to 21. First cases were performed with FlareHawk9 in Argentina, Australia, Chile and Qatar; with FlareHawk7 in Cyprus, Greece, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland; and with TiHawk9 in Puerto Rico and New Zealand. DePuy Synthes racked up pageviews this past week with news the FDA cleared its TELIGEN System, an integrated technology platform that enables minimally invasive surgical transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MIS-TLIF) procedures through digital tools for visualization and access. The TELIGEN System is comprised of a tower that delivers a suite of technologies, including: a camera control system, a VueLIF-T Procedure Kit with a disposable HD camera, a TELIGEN Clear Discectomy Device and patient-based disposable ports. The TELIGEN System integrates with the UNLEASH bundle of implant solutions, which is designed to streamline the main stages in MIS-TLIF. Besides the Philips, Accelus and DePuy Synthes news, cybervisitors gravitated to Mendtronix Inc.’s (MTI) partnership with Lazurite to support the launch of the ArthroFree System, Lazurite’s new first-in-class wireless surgical camera. Mendtronix will provide kitting and fulfilment logistics support, along with other technical services as Lazurite begins distribution of the product. Orders will be fulfilled nationally from Mendtronix’s east coast distribution center in the Pittsburgh, Pa., area.
