The Orthopaedic Implant Company (OIC) has launched OIC Flex-Fix, a value-based system to treat syndesmotic injuries in the ankle. It’s now commercially available in the U.S.

Syndesmotic injuries can happen with or without accompanying ankle fractures. The system is designed to be used either in tandem with a bone plate or as a standalone solution. OIC said this flexibility allows a wider application range to be addressed.

Flex-Fix allows micromotion during healing and was designed to mimic natural joint mechanics. The system also minimizes risk of hardware removal, which is a common problem related to traditional rigid screw fixation.

“The Flex-Fix System is a leap forward in treating syndesmotic injuries with a value-based mindset. It represents OIC’s commitment to innovation, patient care and cost-effectiveness,” said Itai Nemovicher, CEO of OIC. “By simplifying the procedure and reducing the need for additional hardware, Flex-Fix is set to drastically reduce costs for patients and healthcare facilities, while maintaining our high standards of care.”

“The design of the Flex-Fix System is centered around patient safety and surgical efficiency,” added Keli Tokunaga, associate engineer for OIC. “Its low-profile design is critical for minimizing tissue impingement and enhancing patient comfort. The deployment mechanism is meticulously engineered for precision and control, while eliminating the need for a medial incision.”

Earlier this year, OIC announced that it was acquired by Zeda, a global technology solutions company. OIC is now operating as a Zeda Health company.
