New products, personnel, and procedure techniques proved popular on ODT’s website this past week.

The overwhelming favorite by far was Orthofix’s most recent hiring decision—appointing Patrick Fisher as president of its global orthopedics business. He joins the company from Stryker, where he served as vice president and general manager of the Foot and Ankle business. Before Stryker, Fisher was president of Lower Extremity and Biologics for Wright Medical, which Stryker acquired in 2020.

This year’s top 10 (orthopedic) companies report ranked second, well ahead of an online exclusive about minimally invasive spinal techniques. “Through the use of MIS techniques, surgeons can circumvent the need for a lengthy incision and extensive muscle dissection. This reduction in tissue injuries has been shown to correlate with decreased blood loss, diminished postoperative pain, shorter hospital stays, and accelerated recovery,” notes Hanieh Valipour and Kamran Zamanian, Ph.D., of iData Research.

Other items of interest included the addition of EMPOWR Cones to Enovis’ knee revision lineup, and the U.S. availability of the company’s Scandinavian Total Ankle Replacement (STAR Ankle), with new e+ Polyethylene. The implant’s new vitamin E-blended e+ Polyethylene insert offers improved durability, stability, and longevity.
