It was a people-pleasing week in ODT’s digital domain.

Arnold Schwarzenegger—a.k.a. The Teminator—and MaCalus V. Hogan, M.D., teamed up to generate significant website traffic over the last seven days. But the sessions strongman might be surprising to most: Hogan was more popular with readers than the former professional bodybuilder.

Hogan’s installation as Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Foundation President was the top-rated news item on the magazine’s website. Dr. Hogan is currently the David Silver Professor and Chair of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and chief of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Orthopaedic Surgery Service Line. In addition, Dr. Hogan is the lead sports foot and ankle consultant for UPMC Sports Medicine and athletic departments at the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, Duquesne University, Robert Morris University, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Pittsburgh Penguins.

While not as academically accomplished, Schwarzenegger is more well-known, having conquered the acting, business, politics and professional bodybuilding arenas. His newest title came courtesy of Zimmer Biomet Holdings Inc., which named him chief movement officer, a new role designed to motivate, engage, and encourage people to increase their mobility, maintain joint health, and proactively incorporate movement into daily routines.

Non-people-pleasing news that still appealed to cybervisitors involved FDA clearances from Corin and Acuitive Technologies Inc., and Treace Medical’s new bunion correction procedure.

Acuitive Technologies won the FDA’s blessing for CITREPORE, a synthetic bioactive bone void filler that features the company’s patented CITREGEN biomaterial technology. Following placement in a bony void, CITREPORE is resorbed predictably and replaced by the patient’s bone, providing Citrate to guide the healing process metabolically.

Corin, meanwhile, gained 510(k) clearance for its new metaphyseal-filling, triple-layer Icona femoral stem. The collared stem was designed using comprehensive data from the CorinRegistry and represents a significant addition to Corin’s total hip arthroplasty (THA) portfolio, executives said.

Treace Medical Concepts drove significant traffic with the limited market release of its Nanoplasty 3D Minimally Invasive Bunion Correction system and procedure. Nanoplasty is billed as a revolutionary approach to minimally invasive (MIS) bunion surgery. The Nanoplasty MIS system delivers reproducible, 3D correction of a bunion deformity via a cosmetically appealing, hidden incision of the side of the foot. The system is the company’s first entry into the metatarsal osteotomy segment.
