Three orthopedic companies have been recognized as winners of the inaugural OMTEC Awards, a new initiative to recognize outstanding achievements among orthopedic OEMs.

The awards were created to celebrate innovation, advanced technology, and contributions to the orthopedic industry. The winners are as follows:

Foundation Surgical: Groundbreaking Device Design

The company’s Vertiwedge intraosseous device was honored with an OMTEC award by setting a new standard through its advanced materials, additive manufacturing, and mechanical design.

Instead of the repetitive geometric patterns of conventional 3D-printed implants, Vertiwedge features a cancellous lattice structure that mimics cancellous bone’s lattice structure. Foundation Surgical believes the structure can enhance biomechanical compatibility, osseointegration, and load distribution.

“We are incredibly honored to receive the Groundbreaking Device Design Award for our Vertiwedge Intraosseous implant system,” said Foundation Surgical founder and CEO Randal Netz, MD. “This recognition is a testament to the relentless dedication, creativity and passion of our entire team at Foundation Surgical.”

The company won FDA clearance for its Interwedge standalone lateral interbody system in October 2024.

Enovis: Bold Leadership

The company was recognized for its strategically expanding into high-value segments and solidifying its position as one of the industry’s most ambitious companies. Enovis grew its reconstructive sales to the $1 billion mark, reinforcing its orthopedic leadership.

“What an honor to be recognized as a Bold Leader for our strong growth and M&A activities, including the successful integration of LimaCorporate and Mathys into Enovis, positioning us as a powerful global leader in orthopedic care,” said Matt Trerotola, Enovis chair and CEO. “It’s a testament to the incredible work our teams do each day to help people live full, active lives.

Trerotola notified Enovis’ board of directors of his intent to retire from his role as CEO of the company last month.

J&J MedTech: Next-Gen Innovator

The company’s Velys spine active robotic assistance platform was honored for its overcoming of usability and design challenges from first-generation spinal robotic systems. The platform’s cross industry collaboration and build-to-buy business model were recognized as speeding robotic surgery advancements.

This honor reflects our team’s unwavering enthusiasm and dedication to innovation in a new arena for patient care,” said Mike Kuhn, Director of Global Marketing at J&J MedTech. “Both J&J MedTech’s spine business and our surgeon customers are firmly committed to advancing the field of surgical robotics and are excited to expand on this momentum, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in spine care.”

The company debuted Velys spine—which was developed in collaboration with eCential Robotics—in August 2024.
