Gordon Van Ummersen Joins Catalyst OrthoScience’s Board of Directors

New board member has held senior roles at Johnson & Johnson, Tornier, and Stryker.

Catalyst OrthoScience Inc. is welcoming a new member to its Board of Directors, as Gordon Van Ummersen joins the governing body today.

Van Ummersen has held executive leadership positions across Fortune 100 healthcare and medical technology companies, with a proven track record in driving commercial scale, advancing innovation pipelines, and guiding organizations through pivotal phases of growth and transformation. 

“I am pleased to join Catalyst OrthoScience’s board at this important stage of the company’s evolution,” Van Ummersen stated. “Catalyst is an exciting shoulder-focused company that has built a platform focused on differentiation and surgeon partnership, and I look forward to playing an active role in advancing execution across the company’s next phase of growth.”

Van Ummersen’s career has included numerous executive roles driving growth and strategy exclusively in the orthopedic industry. He has amassed a track record of success building organizations, portfolios, and culture in senior roles at Johnson & Johnson, Tornier, and Stryker Corp.

In his roles leading the Trauma and Extremities business at J&J and the Extremities business at Stryker, Van Ummersen orchestrated several seminal acquisitions that culminated in his role leading the integration of Wright Medical into Stryker, from which he retired in 2021.

Van Ummersen earned a bachelor of science degree from Providence College and an MBA from the University of Massachusetts – Boston.

Founded in 2014 by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Steven Goldberg and based in Naples, Fla., Catalyst OrthoScienc aims to redefine shoulder replacement surgery. Its total shoulder systems are engineered for precision and efficiency—preserving bone and soft tissue while enabling delivery of consistent, reproducible results.
