DePuy Orthopaedics Inc. has acquired Finsbury Orthopaedics Limited for an undisclosed sum.

Based in Leatherhead, United Kingdom, Finsbury Orthopaedics manufactures and distributes orthopaedic implants. Some of its products include the DeltaMotion Ceramic-on-Ceramic Hip System; the ADEPT Metal-on-Metal Hip Resurfacing and Total Hip System; the Medial Rotation Knee System; the Dual Bearing Knee System; the BOX Total Ankle Replacement; and Tuke Saw.

Few details about the acquisition were available, but a brief news release from DePuy said the move would expand the firm’s selection of hip-bearing offerings.

Finsbury’s DeltaMotion Hip System uses a Titanium porous plasma spray and Hydroxyapatite to afix the hip joint head to the acetabulum. The product’s cups feature three sets of anti-rotation fins, equally spaced around the rim of the shell.

The company’s ADEPT Hip System includes a cup that features an as-cast beaded structure for bone ingrowth. The cup is coated with hydroxyapate, and the beaded surface extends from the edge of the cup over the pole to provide the maximum opportunity for bone ingrowth, according to Finsbury.

The ADEPT Modular Head is made of cobalt chrome material but its hollow construction helps reduce weight and avoid a cavity that could prompt an infection or the accumulation of soft tissue or debis.

DePuy’s product portfolio contains more than 200 devices, including the Pinnacle Hip Solutions with TrueGlide technology, its Sigma knee product line; Global shoulder portfolio and the Anatomic Locked plating systems for trauma care. DePuy Orthopaedics is based in Warsaw, Ind.
