Design change addresses the challenges in placing lateral screws.

Centinel Spine Inc. has introduced Midline II, its next-generation Stalif Family Lumbar Integrated Interbody fusion device. Midline II provides a solution to restore sagittal balance and lordosis, simplify anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF) surgery and maximize opportunities for lumbar fusion. The company claims the product is the only stand-alone, no-profile, lumbar integrated interbody fusion device with compressive fixation that has been proven to be biomechanically equivalent to a 3600 fusion. “Influenced by the success of Stalif Midline, Midline II marks the next generation of ALIF cages designed to facilitate the surgical procedure and provide better outcomes for patients,” Centinel Spine President/CEO John J. Viscogliosi said. One of the key Midline II design changes is the medial screw hole configuration that enables surgeons to place lateral screws more easily and facilitate overall fixation through the reduction in the surgical envelope. Surgeon feedback suggests the design changes enhance the surgical technique and reduce anatomical risks involved with ALIF surgeries. The size offerings and geometric shape of the Midline II device also have been updated to make implantation easier and to better suit a varied patient population. “The enhanced screw angulation on the Midline II device addresses the challenges in placing the lateral screws,” said Michael Duffy, M.D., spine surgeon at Texas Back Institute. Centinel Spine plans to formally launch Midline II early next year with extensive surgeon training. The product made its public debut last month at the North American Spine Society’s annual meeting inSan Francisco, Calif. Centinel Spine is a privately-held spinal device company developing and commercializing no profile integrated interbody fusion technologies. The West Chester, Pa.-based company was formed in August 2008 through the merger-acquisition of Raymedica LLC and Surgicraft Ltd.
