There are 10 percent more Compamed exhibitors than in 2013.
According to show organizers, this year’s installment of the Medica and Compamed trade fairs (held Nov. 12-15 and Nov. 12-14, respectively, in Düsseldorf, Germany) are showing “strong” exhibitor registrations. Current exhibitor registrations for Medica 2014, World Forum for Medicine, are currently more than 4,500 companies from about 65 nations. With 1.2 million square feet, the booked space at the world’s largest medical trade fair show is at the same high level as in previous years, officials said. Two-thirds of the space has been reserved by international exhibitors. For the concurrently held trade show Compamed 2014, officials for Messe Düsseldorf, report an increase of more than 10 percent exhibitor registrations. More than 700 exhibitors will participate on more than 134,000 square feet of exhibit space. “Considering that in previous years new events have been successfully integrated into the trade show and many English language presentations added to the program—such as the Medica Tech Forum and also the re-launch of the Medical Health IT Forum—this year’s conceptual focus is on the continuation of the ‘rejuvenation’ of the Medica congress program,” said Joachim Schäfer, managing director of Messe Düsseldorf. The German Society for Internal Medicine (DGIM) is a new addition, joining as a partner for the further development of the Medica Education Conference program. DGIM has a network of 23,000 members in the fields of science, medicine and health services on a European-wide basis. With the tagline “Science Meets Medicine,” the content focus for this year’s Medica Education Conference is providing a thematic integration between the conference program and the medical technological innovations presented by the Medica exhibitors. The conference will be an information exchange between international scientists, physicians, specialized medical staff, purchasers from hospitals as well as developers and manufacturers. Each of the conference’s four days will be dedicated to a specific topic such as infection and inflammation, telemedicine and robotics, gastrointestinal oncology and interventional medicine. Other conferences held during Medica 2014 will connect with the topics presented at the trade show: the 37th German Hospital Day as well as the conference for disaster and military medicine (DiMiMED) and the Medica Medicine & Sports Conference (both held in English, geared for an international audience). The Medica Physio Conference, organized by Thieme Medical Publishers—a German medical and science publishing company—is new in the program this year with treatment-oriented talks for physiotherapists emphasizing the treatment of pain and sports physiotherapy. The spectrum of current technology developments for diagnosis and communication “wearables” used close to the body ranges from a chip-sensor bandage that determines specific body parameters by connecting to a smart phone app, to contact lenses that analyze blood sugar content—all transferred using wireless technology. The Wearable Technologies Show held in hall 15 will showcase an extensive selection of wearables that hold a tremendous amount of market potential. Structured according to halls, Medica 2014 focuses on: electromedicine/medical technology (more than 2,500 exhibitors); laboratory technology/diagnostics; physiotherapy/orthopedic technology; commodities and consumables; information and communication technology; as well as medical and specialist furnishings and building technology for hospitals and physicians’ practices. Compamed 2014 will present technological and service solutions for use within the medical technological industry—from new materials, components, primary products, packaging and services to complex custom manufacturing. Both events represent the full range of medical products, devices and instruments in all 19 halls of the Düsseldorf exhibition center. In 2013, the two trade fairs welcomed 132,000 trade visitors, with almost 17,000 particularly interested in the topics covered by Compamed. As in previous years, only one entrance pass is necessary to visit both trade fairs. For further information on visiting or exhibiting, contact Messe Düsseldorf North America at www.mdna.com.
