New Corporate VP Joins Integra LifeSciences

Executive charged with setting company's strategic scientific vision.

Integra LifeSciences Holdings Corporation has hired Kenneth Burhop, Ph.D., as corporate vice president and chief scientific officer. Burhop will be responsible for setting Integra’s strategic scientific vision and roadmap, lead the company’s portfolio prioritization and management, and evaluate corporate development and new product opportunities.

“I am delighted that Ken has joined Integra,” President and CEO Peter J. Arduini said. “With over 30 years of experience in research, development, and commercialization, Ken brings a depth of scientific leadership that will be critical as we continue to expand our product pipeline.”

One of Integra’s strategic goals is accelerating growth. To achieve that, the company is optimizing its growth efforts through a combination of product line extensions, organic product development and the in-licensing and acquisition of technology. Burhop will oversee research in regenerative medicine to help accelerate Integra’s efforts in these areas.

“I am excited to join Integra to lead our R&D efforts and advance our growth strategy forward,”Burhop said in prepared remarks. “We have an opportunity to develop and commercialize new technologies in regenerative medicine, as well as optimize our overall portfolio management across our business segments.”

Burhop has written for more than 40 publications and 70 abstracts, and holds several patents. He is a scientific expert in various of research areas, including wound healing and wound dressing development. Berhop has extensive experience in both biotechnology and medical device research and development, including the development of biocompatible materials, pharmaceuticals and biopharmaceuticals, and electromechanical devices.

Burhop most recently was chief scientific officer (CSO) at Sangart Inc. Prior to joining Sangart, he spent more than 20 years with Baxter Healthcare Corporation in a series of leadership roles, including most recently vice president of R&D for Baxter Pharmaceutical Technologies. Before that, Burhop was vice president/global scientific lead (CSO) for Baxter’s Medication Delivery Division, a business with more than $4 billion in annual sales. As CSO, he provided leadership and direction for all medication delivery R&D and product support across the division’s five strategic businesses.

Burhop received his Ph.D. and M.S. in veterinary science as well as his B.A. in zoology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Based in Plainsboro, N.J., Integra LifeSciences develops technology for orthopedic extremity surgery, neurosurgery, spine surgery, and reconstructive and general surgery.
