Ottobock has released its Patella PRO orthosis for anterior knee pain and patelloremoral pain syndrome.

The Patella PRO is the first soft brace to function and support the patella in flexion, setting it apart from most competitor braces which support the patella in extension. Its re-alignment technology uses spring loaded pull straps to provide additional pressure on the patella when the dislocation happens, preventing patella subluxation and dislocation, company executives said.

The Patella PRO uses a mix of materials for fit, breathability, and migration control, including flexible nylon uprights that contour to individual patient anatomy. This flexible material accommodates severe lateral offsets and large Q-angles common with patellofemoral patients and also allows for quick fittings in clinic settings.

“Biomechanical scientific tests confirm the Patella PRO’s targeted tracking of the patella and it’s rewarding to see the impact on quality of life this technology is having on users,” said Gaurav Mishra, Ottobock’s vice president of global sales and head of its U.S. Orthopedic Division.

Minneapolis, Minn.-based Ottobock was established in 1958 as the Americas corporate headquarters of Otto Bock HealthCare, GmbH, based in Duderstadt, Germany. Ottobock has more than 5,000 employees worldwide in 46 branches and produces more than 50,000 types of prosthetic and orthotic components, mobility and rehabilitation products.
