There’s a new set of leaders in charge at the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS). During its 70th Annual Scientific Conference in San Antonio, Texas, the organization installed Michelle L. Butterworth, D.P.M., F.A.C.F.A.S., as president and Jordan P. Grossman, D.P.M., F.A.C.F.A.S., as president-elect. Butterworth practices with Pee Dee Foot Center in Kingstree, S.C. Board certified in foot surgery, reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, Butterworth earned her podiatric medical degree from Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia. She completed her podiatric surgical residency at the University of Pennsylvania Health System/Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia. “I am very proud to be elected to serve as president of the board of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons,” Butterworth said in a news release. “In the next year, I hope to help the College and my colleagues make great strides in advancing the specialty of foot and ankle surgery for the betterment of our patients as well as the profession.” Grossman practices with Northeast Ohio Orthopaedic Associates and like Butterworth, is board certified in foot surgery as well as reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery. He serves as faculty for the Orthopaedic Residency Program at Akron General Medical Center and the Podiatric Surgical Residency Program at Kaiser Permanente/Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. In addition, Grossman serves as a clinical assistant professor of podiatry in orthopedic surgery at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and is Chief, Section of Podiatry at Akron General Medical Center and St. Thomas Hospital/Summa Health System, also in Akron. Grossman earned his podiatric medical degree from Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. He completed his podiatric surgical residency at the Podiatry Hospital of Pittsburgh (in Pennsylvania) and participated in fellowships at The Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh and The University of Ulm in Germany. “Looking ahead to the next two years as president-elect and president of ACFAS, I see a great opportunity to give back to the profession, my colleagues, patients and the College,” Grossman said. “The members of ACFAS are second to none and I look forward to collaborating with them to help lead the profession into the future for the benefit of the specialty and our patients.” Thomas S. Roukis, D.P.M., Ph.D., F.A.C.F.A.S., joined the board as secretary-treasurer, while Glenn M. Weinraub, D.P.M., F.A.C.F.A.S., was recognized as immediate past president. Roukis practices at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center Department of Orthopaedics, Podiatry and Sports Medicine in La Crosse, Wis. And, like his colleagues, he’s certified in foot surgery reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery. Roukis serves as faculty for the Academy of Ambulatory Foot and Ankle Surgery in Philadelphia, Pa., and is adjunct assistant professor at Midwestern University/College of Health Sciences. In addition, he is a clinical assistant professor at the California School of Podiatric Medicine at Samuel Merritt University in San Francisco, Calif. Roukis earned his podiatric medical degree from the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco. He completed his residency at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center and fellowships at St. Vincenz and Elizabeth Hospital in Mainz, Germany, and the Weil Foot & Ankle Institute in Des Plaines, Ill. “It is an honor to be elected to the ACFAS board of directors and I look forward to serving my fellow colleagues and patients at the College,” Roukis said. “ACFAS is an organization making a difference for the specialty of foot and ankle surgery and I am passionate about being a part of such an organization so dedicated to the advancement of our profession.” Other new additions to the ACFAS board include Richard Derner, D.P.M., F.A.C.F.A.S., of Lake Ridge, Va.; Sean T. Grambart, D.P.M., F.A.C.F.A.S., of Champaign, Ill.; Laurence G. Rubin, D.P.M., F.A.C.F.A.S., of Mechanicsville, Va.; John S. Steinberg, D.P.M., F.A.C.F.A.S., of Washington, D.C.; Christopher Hyer, D.P.M., F.A.C.F.A.S., of Westerville, Ohio; and Kris DiNucci, D.P.M., F.A.C.F.A.S., of Scottsdale, Ariz. Randall Wraalstad, D.P.M., F.A.C.F.A.S., of Twin Falls, Idaho, was elected Division Presidents Council chair. Founded in 1942, the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons promotes research and provides continuing education for its 6,500 members. The Chicago, Ill.-based professional organization also educates the general public about foot health and various foot and ankle conditions.
