Bodycad Introduces Bodycad OnCall Custom Orthopedic Restorations

Bodycad has introduced Bodycad OnCall, its personalized, individually manufactured orthopedic restorations for complex cases.

Bodycad OnCall gives surgeons flexibility in the design and manufacturing of a fully personalized restoration, according to the company. It is ideal for oncology, revision and osteotomy.

“With complex cases, anatomy can be compromised in an endless number of ways which makes off-the-shelf implants a sub-optimal solution,” said Dr. Brian Hamlin, associate director of the Bone and Joint Center of Magee-Womens Hospital of University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pennsylvania. “Bodycad OnCall allows us to customize the restoration with the goal of achieving better outcomes for the patient.”

The Personalized Restoration Evaluation Process (PREP) is guided by Bodycad PREP Techs, who collaborate with surgeons to achieve an anatomical fit for every patient. PREP techs offer consultation and support on load bearing, joint articulation and orthopedic correction. Patient images are sent to Bodycad to enable its Bodycad PREP Tech teams to perform precise measurements of anatomical features. The PREP Tech uses anatomical references that are scientifically supported to optimize function. The measurements are entered using Bodycad’s personalized restoration software to enable the creation of a personalized restoration solution.

A three-dimensional rendering of the patient’s anatomy, along with the proposed solution, is sent to the surgeon for approval or revision. Once the solution is approved, Bodycad manufactures the restoration in its own facilities using the latest manufacturing processes and the use of high quality industry standard materials. The approved restoration is shipped to the surgeon with a customized Bodycad instrument and implant kit. While the restoration technique itself is straightforward and easy to learn, Bodycad offers comprehensive training and ongoing support to ensure an optimal procedure.

Bodycad OnCall uses additive manufacturing (3D printing) to create its restorations. The process involves applying successive layers of material in a precise configuration guided by the model created with Bodycad personalized restoration software.
