Cytomedix Names Marketing Chief

New hire has extensive life-sciences background.

Cytomedix Inc. has named Andrew Cohen as its vice president of marketing. The company brought Cohen on board just in time to launch AutoloGel in the wound care market. He will report to Dean Tozer, executive vice president and chief commercial officer.

“I am thrilled to welcome Andrew to the Cytomedix team and believe he will be an immediate value-added member of our commercial organization,” said Tozer. “His five years of designing and leading the U.S. marketing organization at Advanced BioHealing perfectly position him to help create the marketing team here at Cytomedix.”

Martin Rosendale, CEO added, “Adding world-class commercial talent to our organization is one of our top priorities. Andrew’s appointment is another example of our plan to build a best in class sales and marketing team to execute on the AutoloGel launch and establish the brand.”

Cohen has more than 15 years of U.S. and international marketing experience in the life sciences industry, including 6 years in the wound care sector. He held several senior commercial positions at Advanced BioHealing Inc., including director of marketing, director of international marketing and product manager. His work there focused primarily on launching and building market share for Dermagraft. He developed a five-year strategic product plan, including new indication launch planning, brand and message evolution, new channel entry, and new technology market evaluation. He was also instrumental in creating the patient education program, Heal2gether.

Most recently, Cohen was vice president of marketing for Millennium Laboratories, where he established and led cross-functional product management teams in their Medication Monitoring and Genetic Testing franchises through sales and customer support. Earlier in his career, he held positions with Bio-Rad Laboratories, Sequana Therapeutics, and the NASA Ames Research Center.

Cohen earned a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from the University of California-Los Angeles, and holds a master’s degree in pacific and international affairs from the University of California-San Diego.

Gaithersburg, Md.-based Cytomedix is an autologous regenerative therapies company commercializing platelet technologies for orthopedics and wound care. The company markets the AutoloGel system, a device for the production of autologous platelet rich plasmagel for use on a variety of exuding wounds.
