New device adds to existing pedicle screw system line.

The new product launches continued at this year’s annual meeting of the North American Spine Society (NASS) in Chicago, Ill. Custom Spine Inc. introduced a new auxiliary connector system at this year’s NASS. This system is an extension to the company’s ISSYS LP pedicle screw system, which allows the bone screw to be fully seated while maintaining full polyaxial motion of the screw head. According to representatives at the show, the auxiliary connector system is unique in its ability to accept multiple rod sizes in the same connector due to the advanced saddle pin design seen in the company’s flagship product, ISSYS. Custom Spine’s Auxiliary Connector system features an off-set rod-to-rod connector and s-rod, which allows the extension of a construct that has a 5.5-, 6.0- or 6.35-mm rod. Surgeons attach the open side of the connector to the existing construct and attach the s-rod into the other side of the connector. The s-rod can then be dropped into newly implanted bone screws. Also included in this system are off-set connectors and rod-to-rod connectors. “The addition of the auxiliary connectors, especially the off-set rod-to-rod connector, increases surgeon flexibility when assessing patient care. The surgeon does not need to remove existing implants to create a longer construct, which is a procedure that is more difficult for the patient and requires considerably more time in the operating room,” said Mahmoud Abdelgany, president of Custom Spine. “The addition of these connectors positions ISSYS LP as a complete lumbar screw system with a wide variety of options that the surgeon can chose from intra-operatively to provide the best patient care.” Custom Spine is a privately held company in Parsippany, N.J.
