Hinge Health has unveiled Enso 3, a patented, wireless device to reduce musculoskeletal pain.

Enso 3, which is cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), delivers electrical nerve stimulation for non-invasive, non-addictive pain relief within minutes, the company said.

The new device features reimagined hardware with new colors, finish, and materials. It attached to the skin via a reusable gel pad, so it can be worn comfortable before exercise therapy or during daily activities that are affected by pain.

Enso 3 also features new electrical waveforms that are customized to different body parts and pain levels. Two of these new waveforms are targeted at smaller muscles or to people with more sensitivity. The device will also deliver new treatments over time with over-the-air software updates, according to Hinge Health.

“A musculoskeletal solution is incomplete without an effective way to help people overcome pain that disrupts their daily activities,” said Daniel Perez, CEO and co-founder of Hinge Health. “Over 100,000 Hinge Health members have benefitted from Enso to date, completing over 3.3 million treatment sessions. We’re thrilled to be shipping this unparalleled hardware-software medical solution to Hinge Health members, empowering them with the industry’s most advanced pain relief device that’s seamlessly integrated with the world’s leading exercise therapy program.”

Trial data backs Enso over traditional pain relief methods

A recent randomized controlled trial with 325 subjects showed superior pain reduction compared to a traditional transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) device and exercise therapy alone.

People who used Enso alongside exercise therapy were 2.3 times more likely to achieve clinically meaningful pain reduction than those using TENS and exercise therapy after four weeks. Paired with Hinge Health’s exercise therapy, Enso is also 2.8 times more likely to achieve meaningful pain reduction than exercise alone.

48.8% of Enso users reported significant pain improvement, compared to 34.6% of traditional TENS users and 35.9% of those using exercise therapy without Enso.
