Mininder S. Kocher Appointed AAOS Treasurer

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) named Mininder S. Kocher, M.D., treasurer of the organization at its 2025 annual meeting last week.

An internationally recognized expert in pediatrics, sports medicine and clinical epidemiology, Dr. Kocher has been a leader within the AAOS, serving on both the Board of Directors (BOD) and the Board of Specialty Societies (BOS). Among his other AAOS volunteer positions, Dr. Kocher served on the Evidence-Based Medicine Committee, Economic Value Project Team, and the New Technology Project Team. Additionally, he has played a key role in organizing and instructing numerous AAOS orthopedic learning center courses.

Beyond the AAOS, Dr. Kocher has helped shape the future of orthopedics through his involvement on the BOD of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA), where he served as president from 2021 to 2022. As a founding member of the Pediatric Research in Sports Medicine Society, Dr. Kocher has led education and research in the field. He also is an invited member of the International Pediatric Orthopedic Think Tank (IPOTT), the Herodicus Society, and the Twentieth Century Orthopaedic Association.

Dr. Kocher specializes in pediatric sports medicine and fracture care, serving as team physician for numerous high schools and colleges. His expertise has earned him widespread recognition, including being named “Best of Boston” by Boston Magazine, one of “America’s Top Doctors” by Castle Connelly, and among the “Top 17 Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgeons in North America” by RRY Publications.

Dr. Kocher’s research focuses on clinical epidemiology and biostatistics, with a body of work that includes more than 300 scientific articles, 150 book chapters and eight textbooks. A respected expert, he has served as a visiting professor in more than 20 countries. He has been recognized with numerous research awards, including the Angela Kuo Award, the Arthur Heune Award, the Vernon Thompson Award and the Orthopaedic Research Education Foundation (OREF) Clinical Research Award.

Dr. Kocher serves as chief of the Division of Sports Medicine and O’Donnell Family Endowed Chair at Boston Children’s Hospital, and professor of orthopedic surgery at Harvard Medical School. He earned his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine as a Davidson Scholar before completing his orthopedic residency through the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program. He pursued a pediatric orthopedics fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital and a sports medicine fellowship at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic. In addition, he earned a Master of Public Health degree in clinical epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health and completed the Program for Leadership Development at Harvard Business School.
