Titan Spine has signed a distribution agreement with Biomet Inc. that will bring the company’s Endoskeleton line of interbody fusion devices to practicing spine surgeons in Germany.

“Biomet shares our philosophy that titanium and engineered surface technology can be used to enhance fusion and bone growth upon implantation of interbody fusion devices, leading to improved patient outcomes,” Titan Spine President Kevin Gemas said. “We are pleased to enter into this partnership with Biomet with the goal of bringing Titan Spine devices to more physicians and patients in Europe.”

Under the agreement, Titan Spine will provide the Endoskeleton line of products to Biomet for distribution in Germany. The companies also will consider broadening the scope to reach physicians in additional countries within the European Union.

The full line of Endoskeleton devices features Titan’s proprietary implant surface technology, consisting of a combination of roughened topographies at the macro, micro, and cellular levels. The combination of surface levels is designed to create an optimal host-bone response and actively participate in the fusion process by promoting new bone growth, encouraging natural production of bone morphogenetic proteins and creating the potential for a faster and more robust fusion.

“Biomet is excited about the new partnership with Titan Spine,” said Jim Cloar, general manager for Biomet’s Global Spine business. “The addition of the Titan interbody fusion technology to Biomet’s portfolio of spinal solutions will provide surgeons and their patients with a broad offering of treatment options.”

Titan Spine LLC is a surface technology company focused on the design and manufacture of interbody fusion devices for the spine. The company is located in Mequon, Wis., and Laichingen, Germany.
