Zimmer Acquires German Device Manufacturer

The acquisition will add to Zimmer's extremities and trauma portfolio.

Warsaw, Ind.-based Zimmer Holdings Inc. has acquired Tuttlingen, Germany-based Normed Medizin-Technik GmbH, a company that makes medical devices and components for the foot and ankle, hand and wrist reconstruction, and trauma segments.

Terms and value of the deal were not disclosed.

Normed develops specialized plates, screws and instruments including systems for bone reconstruction and fracture repair, fusion procedures and external fixation. This acquisition will bolster Zimmer’s extremities and trauma product portfolios and new product development capabilities in the fast growing foot and ankle and hand and wrist segments.

Zimmer makes orthopedic reconstructive, spinal and trauma devices, dental implants, and related surgical products.
