Medacta USA has opened its brand new headquarters facility in Chicago, Ill. Medacta USA is a subsidiary of Medacta International, a privately held, family-owned company that makes joint replacement and spine surgery products. The 20,000 square foot Chicago facility is expected to bring more than 50 jobs to the city, uniting Medacta USA’s operations, product development, sales, and marketing functions together in a city and region known for its deep medical technology roots.
“I am pleased to welcome Medacta International’s new U.S. headquarters to Chicago,” said Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. “One of the main objectives of the Plan for Economic Growth and Jobs is to ensure that companies like Medacta see Chicago as the ideal location for new corporate headquarters. This is proof that our efforts to create new jobs and grow the city’s economy are working.”
Medacta USA relocated its headquarters from Southern California to better support the company’s expansion into the U.S. orthopedics market. Since receiving initial U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulatory clearances in 2009, Medacta USA has experienced rapid year-over-year growth. The company is planning several new product introductions this year.
“Everyone at Medacta USA is thrilled to call Chicago our new home,” said Medacta USA President Eric Dremel. “The city combines a deep technical talent pool with the opportunity to collaborate with some of the world’s best orthopedic researchers and practitioners at leading medical institutions. Chicago’s central location also makes it an excellent base from which to tap into the stream of medical technology and orthopedic innovation centered in the Midwest. We are grateful for the city’s warm welcome, and we look forward to becoming a strong contributor to its business community.”
In recent years, Chicago has grown to become a medical technology epicenter, as supported by the city’s ChicagoNEXT effort to drive growth in science, technology, innovation and entrepreneurship. As part of the Plan for Economic Growth and Jobs, Mayor Emanuel has tasked World Business Chicago with oversight of the city’s efforts to grow the region’s healthcare, biopharmaceutical, health IT, academic, and medical device communities, by supporting companies poised to make an impact on the city’s economy and the world of healthcare at large.
Medacta’s new location will allow the company to leverage the city’s resources and will put the company in the heart of an economic engine for medical technology research, development, and innovation. The health services industry in the Chicago region employs more than 525,000 people and includes 91 hospitals and six medical schools.
“Chicago’s business-friendly environment and robust community of top medical talent make it an ideal location for companies such as Medacta to grow and prosper,” said World Business Chicago President and CEO Jeff Malehorn. “Attracting U.S. headquarters of international companies and supporting innovation in emerging sectors are key components of Mayor Emanuel’s Plan for Economic Growth and Jobs, and we’re pleased to welcome Medacta to our rich community of health, science, and technology institutions.”
