DePuy Synthes (a Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices Company) has bought Tennessee-based foot and ankle firm CrossRoads Extremity Systems. CrossRoads offers a variety of procedure-specific, sterile-packed implants and instruments for the lower extremities. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“At DePuy Synthes, we look at innovation with one goal in mind: to bring differentiated solutions to market to address the unmet needs of surgeons and patients around the world,” Oray Boston, Worldwide President, DePuy Synthes Trauma, Extremities, Craniomaxillofacial and Animal Health told the press. “Healthy feet are a foundational element of overall good health, and we are thrilled about the acquisition of CrossRoads and the opportunity to accelerate meaningful innovation by strengthening our offering for elective foot and ankle procedures, enabling us to provide more comprehensive and leading-edge options to surgeons and patients.”
Elective foot surgeries for ailments like bunions and hammertoes are among quickly growing extremities procedures in orthopedics and podiatry.
Thanks to its acquisition of CrossRoads, DePuy Synthes adds the miniBunion 3D, dynaBunion 4D and DynaForce Staple Compression Plates to its portfolio.
The miniBunion minimally invasive metatarsal bone osteotomy solution lowers incision size compared to traditional techniques. The dynaBunion lapidus system, used for lapidus bunionectomy, offers instruments and implants to correct bunions in four dimensions through smaller incisions. DynaForce staple compression plates merge stability with dynamic continuous compression at the site of fusion.
DePuy Synthes also gains CrossRoads’ EcoSMART instrument service, which provides sterilized, reusable instruments as well as post-surgery instrument recovery and processing.
